IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM RACE DIRECTOR AND WATER TEAM: - PLEASE READ

At this stage the race course remains as shown in the Paanui.  Alternative courses are available and will be considered closer to the event dependant on conditions.  We are monitoring weather and sea conditions daily and will make the decision of the course prior to each race.  The course will be selected based on the capability of all competitors in the event and the capability of the safety craft to cope with conditions.

The Race Director and Water team would like to remind all clubs and paddlers that the adequacy of your equipment will be thoroughly checked at safety checking time.  It is YOUR responsibility to ensure YOUR canoe and its equipment is in operational order, even if you are hiring the equipment.  This includes water tight spray skirts with operational zips etc.  Swell conditions may require your spray skirts to be zipped up.  Any Sprayskirt found not to be operational will be failed at safety check.  Please don’t travel all this way to find you can’t race.  Check your equipment NOW, and not the day before or the morning of.

A reminder also that J16 Paddlers MUST WEAR lifejackets whilst racing.  The personal floatation device must fit the individual.  A notice was sent last week to all clubs with teams in the J16 category providing notice of this requirement.

 Kind Regards

To: All J16 competitors
From: Race Director
Topic: Lifejackets

Good morning

WANZ and the Race Director of the Te Wananga O Aotearoa Long Distance Nationals 2016 will be requiring all J16 competitors to WEAR lifejackets / PFDs  during their racing.  This applies to your clubs W6, W2 and W1 / V1 Junior 16 paddlers.

We ask that you make your J16 team’s coaches and individual paddlers aware of this rule ahead of the event.  Please ensure the jackets are fitted appropriately to each paddler.  This rule will be included at the briefing and all J16 crews will be checked at the safety check and boat ramp areas.

Please forward this email to those J16 coaches and paddlers within your club ahead of the event.

We look forward to seeing you at the event and the great racing ahead.

Kind Regards

Rebecca Ryder
